Brewed with well water (the original well at the Old Brewery, sunk in 1758, is still in use, with the hard well water being drawn from 85 feet underground); fermented in ‘stone Yorkshire squares’ to create an almost opaque, wonderfully silky and smooth textured ale with a complex medium dry palate and bittersweet finish.

Given the thick, dark, almost opaque-black color this pours, you can tell it's going to be an intense and flavorful experience. Scents of milk chocolate, coffee with cream, brown bread and oatmeal with molasses drizzle waft from the glass and carry through to the full, creamy palate. The carbonation helps to keep things fresh and clean on the palate, while lingering chocolate, roasted-malt and sweet smoke flavors are decadent and immensely satisfying.
