Renato Ratti Barolo Marcenasco 2012
Wine SpectatorIntense aromas of cherry, tar, wild herb and camphor signal this rich, fleshy red. Cherry fruit comes forward on the palate, while tobacco, licorice and iron notes play supporting roles. The dusty tannins are moderate. Long finish. Best from 2019 through 2032. 1,600 cases imported.
Wine AdvocateCompared to the more expressive and immediate Barolo Conca, I found the 2012 Barolo Marcenasco to be slower to open. The bouquet does offer cassis, dark berry, tar and licorice, but the delivery shows less overall intensity. The wine is well balanced in the mouth with silky tannins that are contrasted against pleasing freshness and lasting fruit. I suggest a slightly shorter drinking window for this Barolo from La Morra.
Wine EnthusiastSubdued aromas recalling grilled herb, orange peel and a hint of freshly picked rose come together on this. The palate offers sour cherry, mint and licorice alongside fine-grained tannins that leave a firm, rather astringent finish.
